Schaden means harm, damage.... for example, after an automotive crash the newspaper will typically list Sachshaden (material damage) and Personenschaden (used to bug me that it was customary to always include a dollar amount for material damages when people were seriously hurt or killed in the crash.)

That might be literal with German but you were using it in an English written text so should probably adjust your usage.
Not quite the same but I am reminded of an old friend of the family, a very intelligent lady who was a college lecturer and later examiner who referred to younger married women friends and relations as hussies. After I had heard her refer to Sarah the second time I had a word with her to ask if she knew what she was saying. She thought it was just a friendly female equivalent of husband and was mortified when I showed her the dictionary definition " a woman or girl who is sexually immoral".

I have German ancestry ( about 4 or 5 generations back) but only studied German for 6 months about 50 years ago. We were told to choose a German name for use in class but on no account would we be allowed Adolph.

The whole initial group (I think there were 12) had a huddle and came up with the name "Team Decadence." Apparently not a single one of them knew what the word actually meant. Lord Sugar was uncharacteristically gentle in instructing them to come up with a new name.
