[quote BigGuynRusty]Yes, turn it off from the Printer switch, NOT the extension cord/Power cord.It goes through a cleaning cycle and parks the heads.
My wide carriage Photo Stylus is eleven years old, never had a clog.

BGnR
exactly. I have several Photo 1200s and a SC740 that are relatively trouble free, and they are 7,7 and 9 years old respectively.

I've used Epsons since the 600 came out. Never a clog. But I do turn mine off after each use.

it is in the manuals, it is just that most don't actually READ the manuals.

My big complaint is that they never say why to power it down that way. My old SC800 manual said that, but that was a ling time ago....back when epsons still had a 2 year warranty.

[quote Marc Anthony]Yes. Epsons clog very easily, when left on unused, and you have to waste a lot of expensive ink to clean the print heads.
Amen.

I'm on my second 740, the first one was tossed when the printhead started dragging on the paper, worn out who knows it did a lot of printing. Mine second one is used daily and is never turned off. I use ink from ink4art.com and clogging is a non-issue with mine.

Epsons, use'em or lose'em!

I still have an 800 and a 900.
Always turned off every day at the end of the day.
Never allowed to go unused for more than a week.
They've were trouble free until they were replaced with a Canon (for the 6 seperate ink tanks), and a laser printer.

Bought my niece a 740 and she killed it in less than a year.
(she tried refilling cartrdige with bottle of ink from Staples
)
Staples gave me a good deal on a new printer when I brought it in with the store packed. :-)

They should just put a clock on the thing and have it run a quick clean cycle once a week...how much could that cost?

Re: Advice from the Epson Rep: Turn it Off - RAMd®d - 08-25-2006

The cleaning cycle uses a lot of ink. If you print once a week, no clock needed.

bah, drop a bit of windex on the sponge where the head rests. that'll bring back every one of your "dead" epsons.
