That looks like a really fun place to hang out.

I just noticed something really weird...

In all six of the heron shots, the birds are facing left. Then I noticed that in all shots combined, 15 birds (and one weasel) are looking left and only five to the right.

Coincidence? I dunno... got an explanation? Am I subconsciously seeking objects that are looking left?

Facing into the breeze?

Heron rookeries come and go. You mentioned several dead trees. The feces can eventually kill the trees they are using, so they move on to greener pastures. That's just one possible explanation, of course. I know of one small rookery near me that was abandoned when two of the biggest trees blew down in a storm.

These are great pictures Hal. Just being out and amongst 'em is the coolest thing.

Good to know that this might just be a natural occurrence. Thanks.
