Re: Hobbyists/Crafters- have a magnifying lamp you like? - Acer - 03-25-2015 I picked up an extra-strong pair of OTC reading glasses that I use only for close work. That's probably the cheapest option of all, assuming you have another light source at hand. Re: Hobbyists/Crafters- have a magnifying lamp you like? - Forrest - 03-25-2015 Instead of buying the Ottlite, why not just install the Ottlite 25W CFL bulbs in your current light fixtures? The OttLite 25ED12R 25w Edison CFL Swirl Bulb is available for $5.99 each on Amazon. Just to clarify: The main need is a good, strong, clean, light. The magnifier would be a nice option for the FEW times I need to see something up close/in great detail. The need for the light is constant. So, while I appreciate the glasses suggestions, I'm hoping for input on lamps. Thanks- DM Re: Hobbyists/Crafters- have a magnifying lamp you like? - hal - 03-26-2015 This will probably sound silly, but for this kind of work, I'll often use my headlamp (from my backpacking gear). I love that with a headlamp, the brightest part of the beam stays on whatever it is that I'm looking at. Very lightweight - you'll forget that it's there. And that can make you look like an idiot when you go outside in broad daylight with a headlamp on. Problem is, no matter how lightweight it is, after a while it starts to give me a headache. I can't really wear headbands or put my hair in a pony tail for the same reason. If I were only knitting for a few minutes at a time, it would be fine. DM |
