Re: really good summer walking shoes? - Buzz - 07-15-2015 If you're not gonna totally abuse them, the new Nike Lunar Eclipse 5 is hard to beat for the "average" foot. ![]() (sorry for posting women's colorway, but image fit best here; men's colorway is similar w/ fine dot gradient swoosh instead of speckled swoosh shown above) It's on the heavy side for a lightweight running shoe, as it provides gobs of support and cushioning, making an ideal walking shoe w/ it's all around neutral characteristics. I do mean walking as opposed to hiking or most off road use where even more overall support is called for. MSRP $135, best I could easily find online is Eastbay at $98 w/ FS. Bonus is Nike+ compatibility. The original Eclipse's were great, then the next couple of revs were a step or two backwards, the 4's got 'em back on track, and the current 5's are Nike's all time best effort (again for the "average" foot; not too skinny, wide, or otherwise misshapen...). Unfortunately, AFAIK Nike doesn't offer a customized version of the Eclipse, like they do for the ever popular Lunarglide series that allows for more/better sizing options to accommodate other than "average" foot variants. == Re: really good summer walking shoes? - mrlynn - 07-15-2015 Buzz wrote: Unfortunately, my left foot is "misshapen." I have a pair of SAS walking shoes, which are great for pavement, and dressy enough to wear with a suit if necessary, but not for summer (too hot) and not for the woods (where I want sneakers), and not for winter (too slippery). They fit because they are EEE (extra-wide). I really could use an EEE summer sneaker or quasi-sandal, but have to try them on, so need a brick-and-mortar store, not online. Who sells those shoes Black likes? /Mr Lynn Re: really good summer walking shoes? - Fritz - 07-15-2015 never seen those Finns. Look nice. I have a pair of Mephisto that cost a bloody fortune, but they've been re-soled and are at least 10 years old. Better deal than 4 months of cable TV. Re: really good summer walking shoes? - decay - 07-15-2015 I guess I meant wet, dry, hard, sand, gravel, and so on. I realize it's the ground, Mr. clever-trousers. ![]() Re: really good summer walking shoes? - mrbigstuff - 07-15-2015 decay wrote: just plain old pavement that one would find in any city. bituminous, cement, the occasional blade of grass. these are strictly for walking, no beach wear, or hiking or mud wrestling, etc. Re: really good summer walking shoes? - GuyGene - 07-15-2015 My neighbor, who is 82, used to walk/jog every day for 7 miles. Every day. He told me to get New Balance walking shoes, about $90 a few years ago. He was right. I love them! Boys, take care of ye feet. Right now, I am suffering pain due to a fractured spur in me feet (wha'ever that means) according to me doc I just saw yesterday. I never skimp on shoes, but alas, I do tend to wear them too long. They gave me some cushion insoles to help, otherwise, nothing they can do... Re: really good summer walking shoes? - max - 07-15-2015 mrbigstuff wrote: those are great. but, man, yeah, $$$$. I love the perforated styles; exactly what I am looking for except for the $345 price tag. Yes, with that great Finnish sense of style..... Re: really good summer walking shoes? - decay - 07-15-2015 Anyone like the GoWalk Skechers? http://www.skechers.com/styles/performance/gowalk or something similar? Re: really good summer walking shoes? - Carm - 07-15-2015 Yes, I do. In the minority though. Re: really good summer walking shoes? - Pat - 07-15-2015 On the way to the Grand Canyon last month, I realized that I left both my Vans and hiking boots @ home. Stopped @ an outlet center and bought these Skechers. Comfortable right out of the box on both pavement/concrete and dirt trails. Soaked them in salt water last weekend canoeing. Dried fairly quickly and still look brand new. |
