Much cheaper to get an older Android phone with NFC at this point. Re: Apple Pay - Article Accelerator - 08-05-2015 vision63 wrote: If it takes Apple Pay, it takes Google Wallet. Same thing. I think that was the point. Nothing more. Re: Apple Pay - GuyGene - 08-05-2015 I look at Apple Pay as a free accessory to people who already have an iPhone. Not a $650 entrance fee. So many people already have iPhones, so Apple Pay is great! Forget skimmers. Our Visa card name was stolen tow times! Just the number, and used for over $2,500 800 miles away. That could not happen with Apple Pay. Try being overseas when your credit card number is stolen, like I was the first time. Whew, wha' a headache. Re: Apple Pay - N-OS X-tasy! - 08-05-2015 silvarios wrote: Check the thread again. I'm not the one who suggested one should buy a $350 Apple Watch to avoid taking out my phone. I did not mean to indicate that you had; hence, my use of the pronoun "we've" as opposed to "you've." silvarios wrote: If this is a concern every time you make a purchase, you have bigger problems than deciding which pay system to use. If AP and GW were the same thing, only one of them would exist. Re: Apple Pay - silvarios - 08-05-2015 N-OS X-tasy! wrote: Ah. Understood. Don't get me wrong. I bought a Pebble for $80 because it largely obviated my need to take out my phone in order to interact with notifications, but the cost of my phone plus watch is less than the most inexpensive tier of Apple Watch. When my phone is charging and I'm upstairs, nice to be able to glance down and see who's calling, messaging, emailing, etc. The only problem? I hate wearing a watch. Yes, I'm a dolt. You should check out how many phones are broken every year because of owners dropping their phones. If I had to take my phone out of my pocket every time I needed to pay for something, it would likely increase the likelihood of the phone dropping. Especially at the pump during the winter months. One night I dropped my credit card like three times because I couldn't feel my fingers (and my gloves made it too cumbersome to operate the stupid swipe). If I had to take my phone out of my pocket, yeah, sad to say, it would have been toast, broken on the curb of the gas pump. http://www.washingtonpost.com/busted-iphones-add-up-to-big-business/2012/09/21/e6ded38c-01b8-11e2-9367-4e1bafb958db_story.html https://scripted.com/cpt_experts/weird-wacky-ways-kill-smartphone/ Re: Apple Pay - silvarios - 08-05-2015 N-OS X-tasy! wrote: So these are not two services that allow payment through a phone via an NFC chip? Then again, at this rate, I probably completely misunderstood the post. ![]() Re: Apple Pay - vision63 - 08-05-2015 I think the point is using Apple Pay is darned handy. |
