Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - troywellbuilt - 03-14-2016 My cousin who works in the industry says rental cars' maintenance is always done as scheduled. He told me not to hesitate to buy one simply because it was a former rental car. Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - robfilms - 03-14-2016 thank you for the many helpful posts and frankly, they are more encouraging than i imagined. i remain interested and have scheduled a 3-day "test drive". i look forward to any other comments. be well. rob Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - The UnDoug - 03-14-2016 Care to share what type of car it is? Just curious... Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - space-time - 03-15-2016 here is an example; I am interested in a Mazda CX-5. But, I would like the touring, or grand touring model. Anyway, the sport model with AWD is officially $24,445, I guess you could negotiate with the dealer about $2000 off, but then they add destination fee, documentation fee, and you end up with only $1000 discount off MRSP, so let's call that $23,500. http://mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/configEntryPoint.action?buttonAction=continue&vehicleCode=CX5&modelYear=2016&skipZip=0&from=&zip=08536 Hertz has one for sale at $18,475 with 27,568 miles. https://www.hertzcarsales.com/vehicle/details/14563360 so you save around $5000 vs new, but you already have 27.5 K on the odometer, not much warranty left. I would probably buy a certified one instead, at least you get the balance of 7 year/100k miles powertrain warranty. What do you say? Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - DP - 03-15-2016 I always think of the old saw, "Don't be gentle, it's only a rental!"... Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - DavidS - 03-15-2016 My father actually works for Enterprise Fleet Sales. He mainly moves cars to their fleet dealership and to/from different locations around Atlanta. They evidently do a pretty good business selling their rentals. Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - Mr645 - 03-15-2016 I have never bought a car from a rental fleet, but I have rented many times. Many times I get cars that are overdue for service. Not huge but I'll notice the door jam sticker says due for oil change at 15,000 and the car has 16,230 miles on it. I rented a Jeep SUV once and the service light was on when the gave it to me so the staff reset it and sent me on my way. If you are considering a Silver Jetta wagon from Enterprise, don't, I may have rented it. Also a Yellow Beetle, we tried to roll it over, not as easy as the shape would suggest Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - OWC Jamie - 03-16-2016 DP wrote: Some people treat their spouses and friends the same way. It's sage advice to steer clear of them as well. Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - fauch - 03-17-2016 Why is Hertz selling this car after only 9 months? Don't they usually hold on to them for a few years? And in general I would be VERY wary of buying ANY car that was used as a rental. People flat out destroy them. A car off of a corporate lease is a different story... Re: anyone buy a car from a rental car company/hertz? - JoeH - 03-18-2016 I don't know about Hertz, but a number of car rental companies sell off cars after a certain number of miles. Or if the percentage of a particular model exceeds the demand they see for it. |
