pRICE,

Actually, that isn't clear. You don't know what he's staring at and are assuming it's the jumbotron. He could have been staring at someone in the stands. You don't know.

Robert

Whatever he is looking at is not what the people around him were looking at and they backed away from. One set of legs shows a person running away.

It's pretty freakin' obvious he's staring up and watching the giant jumbotron like so many in the side stands are want to do.
He's not watching the second coming of Jesus Christ.
He's not in a strip club busily parting with dollar bills either.

Makes me think of those clips where you see someone on the sidelines of a basketball court get hit or have things spilled on them. It's the sideline; you have to be attentive and, even then, there's a chance for bodily damage to occur.

Now, I feel really sorry for the woman but, dangit, you're at a sporting event where a large hard object is being hurled around essentially by gladiators. Pay attention when the game is in progress.

There are WAY too many people on the sidelines of NFL games. There should be: the coach, the players, and a bench. Send the rest home.

FWIW.. pRICE knows how to handle himself on the sidelines. He's an actual pro at that. So his commentary is well considered.

People who stand where there is a possibility of injury need to be able to get the heck out of the way fast.

Art Briles was on the sidelines during the game - too bad it didn't happen to him.

As someone else who's photographed NBA, NCAA, and NFL games just inches or feet from the field of play, I could not concur with pRICE more.

It's actually the WORST at NFL and NCAA football games BECAUSE of the amount of people on the sidelines - it's not just the players that will run you over but the officiating and team crews who have a job to do (some of which is focused on player safety). If you're in their way and not paying attention they WILL run you over (and you deserve it).

Robert M,

Whatever he is watching, it is not the play that is unfolding in front of him and coming his way. He is doing what some car drivers do, paying attention to something other than the road ahead. He paid the consequences for not watching the game on the ground.

Model,

That's fine. I never had an issue with the idea that he wasn't paying attention to the action in front of him. I took issue with the assumption he was watching the jumbotron, when his attention could have been on any number of things.

He got off easy.

I photographed race cars at a local dirt track and literally had to run for my life a few times. They would get out of control and jump the berm into the infield. Glad I was younger and faster then.

I did not stay on the infield for the figure 8 race...
