BGnR Re: Is this true that ... - Monster - 09-30-2006 really need to work on my reading comprehension.... Re: Is this true that ... - Article Accelerator - 09-30-2006 [quote BigGuynRusty]In the real world, very true. That is why antennae are placed on top of the highest structure, hills, and mountaintops. My experience agrees with the theory, i.e. is the opposite of yours. BTW, short range transmission is a very different situation from conventional, long range broadcasting. The geometry alone is radically different. Wonder when they are gonna install transmitter antennae underground? Okay, lets talk short range, Cell Antennae, very short range, measured in thousands of feet, not miles. Still up on the top of the highest structures, and towers. Maybe it is my planet only? BGnR Re: Is this true that ... - Racer X - 10-01-2006 didn't they already? VLF for subs? Re: Is this true that ... - BigGuynRusty - 10-01-2006 [quote Article Accelerator][quote BigGuynRusty][Cell Antennae, very short range, measured in thousands of feet, not miles How about Wi-Fi, measured in 10s of feet? That's your problem! Crappy WiFi range. Try putting your wireless router up higher. I am getting about 350 feet, feeding three neighbors houses with the stock antenna. Thinking of getting a longer antenna to extend the range to 600+ feet so I can feed the neighbors across the street. Tested it about 10 months ago worked great but the antenna was a loaner and the neighbors wouldn't pay for one when the loaner went back. They asked me the other day if the offer is still open. BTW, the signal was stronger 30 feet farther away, but 20 feet higher. Moved it from the eaves (10 feet up, 30 feet closer), to the peak of the roof (30 feet up, 30 feet farther back), in fact all the neighbors signals got stronger. If you are only getting tens of feet from your WiFi, better pick it up off the desk. BGnR Re: Is this true that ... - BigGuynRusty - 10-01-2006 [quote Racer X]didn't they already? VLF for subs? Actually ELF (Extremely Low Frequency) 40-80Hz, yes that is within human hearing range. Last antenna I heard about was over 90KM long. Yes it is buried, frequencies at the low of a range are actually helped by denser material.
