Re: Hard drive reliability (specifically WD) - davemchine - 02-03-2017 The Blue drives used to be 7200RPM but now are 5400RPM. I think the actual Blue drive was eliminated and they re-badged the Green's. A quick google search shows me this is true. So I think the real question is should you buy Green, Red or Black and that depends on your application. Green/Blue=cheap and slow Red=Designed for NAS application with anti vibration Black=Fast and most expensive I have used Green in my Drobo for years and have at least 12 drives. They have worked well for me and were inexpensive at the time of purchase. Seeing the pricing on the Red's I might consider switching to that in the future.
