performance wise, it'll be a toss up. you can toss more RAM into the smurf. at $135, if it works, you won't lose anything by buying it. I've been through many emacs, and they tend to be wysiwyg, w/ not as much adjustability if the monitor is wonky. IIRC, the arse end of monitor is glued down after final calibration and assembly, so it's no joke w/ the yolk once you see it. I've always made it a point to try before I buy w/ emacs, after having to swap out a couple early on. Baby Buzz's have been easy on the eyes (except when his was plagued w/ known bad mojo recall stuff that was replaced), though his current emac is now a bit noisier (fan wise) after shopwork than it was before, but they're great machines for kids and older people. bottom line, if it looks good when powered on, buy it. see you later, loading up the van now...

pretty sure the smurf can only take 256mb sticks (1gig max) and the emac can take 512mb sticks (max 1 gig). the 700mhz emac i had was quiet and the speakers are very nice it ran as a itunes server.
