Do not take them lightly (or on a sandwich with mayo and tomato) without considering these: Turkey spurs

Exactly! I never saw a wild turkey before 10 years ago, and now I see them more frequently than Canadian geese, which used to be everywhere, but which seem to be in a bit of decline.

We have a flock of turkeys that live in our neighborhood. Lots of common woods and such, and of course a 350 acre nature preserve right across the road. The local foxes and coyotes help keep the population down. I have, however, never seen a turkey killed by a vehicle. They seem to fly pretty well when confronted with a Ford.

Geese, OTOH ? Jeez.... I had to dodge one last night.

See, I would have blindsided by that discovery!

I've seen wild turkeys try to attack a car.

they can fly, badly, I guess it depends on what fly means. A flock of turkeys has moved into our woods, and so I see them fairly regularly. They sleep in trees, sometimes high, and that means they fly to get up there. If startled, they may take off. Walking at night, and having a flock of turkeys take off flying from the branches above your head can be surprising.
Oh, I know. My "brother in law" hunts turkeys and there is some funny cell phone video from his kid of a turkey escaping by flying right at dad.
