I would have bet money that the 50th was last year. All these Beatles half-century anniversaries are starting to blend in, I guess.

1967. I remember buying it in June. I remember my garage band trying to learn some of it and we gave up, it was so hard.
That stuff was never meant to be played by a garage band, or any band live, including the Beatles.

Incredible album, but I wouldn't argue with those who say Revolver was even better.

But a bunch of 15-17 year olds are too stupid to know that.

Giles Martin is remixing it from the original source tapes. Here's a podcast interview with him discussing the reasons, techniques, and what not...

I love that album. I probably got it in June of 1967 also. I remember having a disagreement with someone who didn't like the complexity. I was the right age to "grow up" in step with the evolving Beatles music, and cannot imagine surviving adolescence without them (I know I would have, but it would have been so much worse). Growing up where I did and when I did was like growing up in a strait jacket. No matter how angry and depressed I was, they made me feel happy, joyful, energized. The Beatles were not just a breath of fresh air; they were an inspiration to "think different", to grow, to escape.

Couldn't have said it better.

I bought the LP 50 years ago on this day, at a record store south of San Francisco. I was at Apple in Fremont the day the CD was released. A bunch of us headed out for an early lunch and listened to it in my buddy's car on the way back to the factory. I remember the startling clarity, but now prefer the "softer" LP sound.

Huh? Hendrix KILLED with the title track performed live on stage shortly after the album was released. Pure genius, AFAIC!

In 1000 years they will be playing the Beatles.

And there will still be people saying that they are overrated.

We weren't quite as good as Hendrix.
