How about

for instructions?

Although many might prefer the following or remember a similar motel from years gone by--these are close to reopening.

Re: I want to build a teepee - Racer X - 10-30-2006

I was at a firepit party saturday afternoon while on a break from setting up the halloween party.

His 2.5' diameter fire kettle puts out enough heat, that in an open backyard, we were sitting roughly 5 feet away. And it was 45F outside when the sun went down. So he would have needed a circle at roughly 3' high about 12 feet in diameter. That would be about 15' at the ground.

A 12' high cone with a 12' diameter would need about 450 sq feet . A typical cowhide is about 50 sq feet but it's irregular, so you might need 12 or 15 of them.

Yeah, I'm with the "why is an American Indian asking a mac forum how to build a teepee" faction.

I have been to a number of reservations and to be honest, in all of the history books/museums and such, and growing up in KS there are a lot of those items/places, I have never seen any depiction, except in Hollywood movies, of fires being inside of a teepee. They are always outside.

Re: I want to build a teepee - Racer X - 10-31-2006

you probably don't go camping in january in the Black Hills. Our sleeping bags are far more effecient than buffalo robes. fires were used for heat, and sometimes cooking (usually in the winter) inside teepees and their variants among the native americans,

I'm not really an American Indian. I'm only like 1/32 or something like that.

Thanks everybody for your ideas and tips. I got some good ideas now and maybe me and my friend can move foward. If we go on with it I'll definently take pictures of the process for all who are interested.
