Our blueray and ancient wii both have Netflix apps installed,

My BluRay player also has Netflix, but the app is to old to use with it anymore. I now use the AppleTV 4 I got when I signed up for DirecTV Now. That’s the problem with hardware that isn’t constantly updated. You get left behind. We bought blu ray players With warranty for that reason. No updates, take it back for new machine

Bestbuy sells warranty on their blu day players. The blu ray standard is constantly updated, movies on blu ray disc sometimes skip or do funky things if the player isn’t updated. Skipping straight from package. The software side for Netflix is just as bad, little to no support and it pretty much becomes a brick. They tried to tell me this last time that the shop would fix it. No such “fix” was provided. We got store credit for blu ray players and got a different brand. The last player we had was from Sony and they were pretty much on it with updates. The problem was the buttons on the front of the player kept popping off and skipping. This is our third set of blu-Ray players.

Easiest way is to go with a Roku, starting at about $30.

Download the PlutoTV app. Some local channels are available in some markets.

.....cheapest is Roku [ unless you already have Apple TV ].....as mentioned if you have Mac with HDMI........

Don't buy or hook up anything additional.
First check your cable box remote for an Apps or Widgets button. Netflix is usually in there somewhere. You just have to sign-in using the remote when you find it.

If that fails then go with Plan B. See above.

I wasn't aware of PlutoTV:

As others have mentioned, there's Roku, a host of game consoles (there's a Netflix app available on both my PlayStation & Xbox consoles), and many DVD/Blu-Ray players. Still and all, my first choice would be AppleTV, even going back to a cheaper, previous version (we're heavy into the Apple ecosystem for movies, TV, and music, though, so I'm a bit biased there).

FWIW, my favorite blu-ray player has always been my PS3, probably b'c of the continual updates it receives. I have never had a problem playing any Blu-ray disc (or DVD for that matter) on it since we bought it back in 2007 or thereabouts. (It's still in use for that & gaming.)
