This year I could get from the start a carrier-free iPhone. In my case, I wanted to port my customized SIM card forward without having to buy a new SIM-add-on from Flexiroam.

When you buy directly from Apple, you can get a SIM=free phone, and this new line up will have them out the same time as carrier-tied phones.

I think the only issue for some people may be the the full retail price.

But that the only way I'll buy a 'Phone.

it used to be that ATT had one more LTE band compared to T-Mobile phones, or something like that, so it used to be an advantage to buy an ATT. back the unlocked and T-Mobile lacked that LTE band. Also there was confusion about LTE bands in US and abroad, apparently one phone was better in US, the other was better abroad.

Not sure if that is the case anymore, I hope not. I am afraid the mess will start all over again with 5G. Unless 5G gives me UNLIMITED data to compete with cable, I am not interested in 5G at all.

same here. in fact i picked up an XS earlier today. hedging my bets in case they run out. within the 14 day return period i look at the new 11 and see if in-hand it's compelling enough to overcome my concerns about it's size.

I'm hoping Apple is just selling one good phone, but I'd be ok with this being a good international device for my portfolio.
