Carm,

Wait until Costco has it on sale. Dollar for dollar, the beat deal each time and it’s for the base and two satellites. AC3000 version if i remember correctly.

Robert

Thanks for the answers ! Looks like I'll have to invest when I next have the opportunity. In the mean time I'll set up a roaming network with one main router and a few access points on the ethernet backbone.

Heck, I have to set up an 802.11 b access point someplace for a few antique devices.

If you already have an ethernet backbone then get a POE switch and Ubiquity Unify APs. Even the best Mesh system is still only half as good as hard wired APs.

I found my tp-link router which you might find useful and well priced. On the for sale forum.

Another vote for mesh and the Orbi. For years I dealt with support issues related to a good friend's use of the Verison FIOS wireless router and its really poor placement within the house (no option to put it anywhere else). Last year I convinced my friend to go the Orbi route -- I've not received one single call for support since.

Another vote for Orbi.

I was using the Mobile Asus routers with AiMesh. Worked OK, but not great. I installed a 2 unit Ac3000 system, and wow! What a difference!

I use wired backhaul (was not originally available).

Robert, I use the Orb I with FIOS, no VZ router. I use the Orbi for routing. Works great. I use Tivo for my set top box system.

Robert -- thanks; will have to look & bookmark. I use my Orbi system as the router (connected to a Surfboard modem), though; no bridging needed.
