Not sure about how they compare to the newer design, but as with every "refurb" I've gotten from Apple, these are new. Really new.

Well, crap. Not only does Tweeter want to charge sales tax, but going through Google Checkout gives no discount at all. So they're out.

Our refurb 3rd gen 2 years ago looked brand new. the only difference I could tell was the generic brown box.
