Re: Different spin on the wearing of masks. - anonymouse1 - 04-04-2020 FWIW, a hepa filter is more effective than an N95, but probably harder to breathe through. And you'd have to shape it into a mask that wraps around your nose, because if air is leaking around the edges of the mask, it's much less useful. That's one reason a bandana is useful, because it can be adjusted to leak less. Re: Different spin on the wearing of masks. - deckeda - 04-04-2020 People who cough but are asymptomatic are surely who you’d like to see covering up with something. Logically, everyone should wear something. Re: Different spin on the wearing of masks. - Ken Sp. - 04-05-2020 Masks & filters remind you to not touch your mouth and nose. Specifically, experts have come to believe that the virus may spread through the dispersement of exhaled aerosol particles by asymptomatic infected persons, whereas before it was believed the virus could only spread through droplet particles. Aerosol particles are much smaller than droplet particles and can disperse much farther from the body via sneezing, singing and even speaking normally. Experts now believe wearing a mask EDIT: Edited to increase accuracy. Wearing a mask blocks the dispersement of droplet AND aerosol particles. :agree: Re: Different spin on the wearing of masks. - Diana - 04-05-2020 Gareth wrote: That's my take on it. I saw a guy at the grocery tonight wearing one of those. I thought it was amusing, but that was probably just me. Thanks for the link! They were essentially doing everything right, but it is believed one or more were asymptomatic, and the heavy volume of exhalation was causing aerosolized virii to be wafting around the room. |
