As others have said, get a blade made for the cut you need to do on your door. The blade in the pic is not a finish blade.

A half inch trim would be fine as others have stated, there is a wood frame in a hollow door. Take the door off by popping out the pins on the hinges. Much easier to deal with than unscrewing the hinges from the door.

check out Craigslist for a used saw, you'll save a great deal.

What everybody else said...

If you already have clamps then using a 1x4 or 2x4 would be fine. But, if you have to buy clamps, you might buy this instead:

If you have a Harbor Freight near you, of course. The 20% coupons that are all over the place would make it cost a bit over $18. I find it easier to make a square cut with it rather than 2 clamps and a board.

Michael s clamp is the exact thing u would use. Wood is too big.

And a 1x4 isn’t going to be straight although it will be straight enough. But it is still unwieldy to cut a door using a 1x4.

My suggestion too.

They are $14.99 in the June coupon book. If you want the electronic version, PM me your e-mail, and I will forward it to you. They can scan the coupon from your smartphone screen. Just an option.

Thanks.

Carpet is installed, no way I rip it out. Our family, our house, our rules, LOL

Noted that I need a better blade. At least I got the right tool.

Noted that I need to use tape to prevent splinter. And I plan to sand the edges to apply a small chamfer.

Noted that I need a straight edge tool. Will shop at Amazon for something similar. No way I go to a Harbor Freight right now.

Already knew to take pins out, not way I unscrew the hinges.

Thanks folks!

Is the door hollow core or solid wood?

That was my question since it wasn't stated and most of the advice offered is for hollow core doors.
