This happens to me on my work Mac - easy to test by showing it also happens when using an external keyboard.
One could infer that you have a key logger on your work Mac (who knows, IT is capable of anything these days)

I've had two of this gen's MacBook Pro's. The 2016 15" keyboard was so bad that it actually made me question my mental state. I'm press a key and some other key would strike. I couldn't even type in my password properly. Apple would force me to reset the password multiple times.
My second MBP's keyboard works much better but I have to make sure I position my palms on the palmrest and just use my fingers to type to achieve any kind of accuracy. Now I'm apparently suffering a battery swelling circumstance while the Apple Stores are all closed in my area. The whole MBP rocks when I type on it.
Other than that, it's a cool version of the Pro. But now I'm wishing for a 16" version. If Apple fixes my battery issue (mid 2017 15") I may sell it then just get a 16".
My Mac desktops have been solid, my portables have generally had some kind of issue and I'm always not part of the recall. So I have to fuss to get what I want. I'm tired of that.

There is no question that IT has these capabilities in their toolbox...
