PBS Newshour did a story about the hamburger misinformation Tuesday evening. Author was quite frustrated about how the research was so severely misrepresented.

Excuse me? Every credible news source including Laura Italiano’s own freaking tweet said she resigned.
I’m not saying she wasn’t effectively pushed out, unsupported, or otherwise not stopped from leaving. Nor am I “arguing” about what she should have done and when. I’m am also most assuredly not “guessing.”
People often resign when about to be fired.
She's not going to say she wss fired and nobody except her employer would know, so it cannot be reported.

Resigning AFTER writing the fake story allows her to demonstrate her accusation with an actual, immediate example.
Refusing to comply and resigning would have generated only a fraction of newsworthy impact.
