Re: 25 years ago today: bought my first computer: Power Mac 7300/180 - Lew Zealand - 02-25-2022 Cooool! The first Mac I bought was a PB5300cs, which was later upgraded to a used PB5300ce. Still have that and it was working 3 or 4 years ago, the last time I tried it. Should get it out and see. First Apple computer I owned was a IIgs, which was a graduation present. Not sure if getting that over a Mac Plus was the right thing, but it did it's job. It's been recycled as I have a problem keeping old things and that had to go. First Apple computer in the house was a //e the parents bought for us in 1984 or so. Older Brother Zealand still has that one and it works. Re: 25 years ago today: bought my first computer: Power Mac 7300/180 - Zoidberg - 02-25-2022 My first Mac (around 1992/93) was a very used PowerBook 160 with 4MB RAM and a 40MB storage drive. After a fashion, I upgraded to a 265MB (? I forget the sizes) storage drive and thought I would *never* fill it up. Next up was a PowerPC 7100/66, which was my go-to for a long while. Loved that thing. First time I really started to work on the innards myself. Followed it up with a Performa 6360, which remained my work machine for a while. After that, it's a blur of PowerBooks, iMacs (including the first gumdrop), Power Macs. Cube. Blue PowerMac. Luxo-style iMac. Still, I miss those early days. Who doesn't? Exploring the Mac OS (I started with System 7.1, "World Ready" was its tag-line, as I recall), appreciating the simplicity of the system, the excitement of protected memory (7.5? or 8.0?), et al. Realizing I could get work done on my Mac instead of, like my cohorts, always working on the PC to just get it to work right. Not to mention hours spent playing games like X-WING and TIE FIGHTER. Wish I had a few of them (finances were that I always had to sell one to move to the next). Lost my legacy stuff (games, boxes, devices, books (holy cow; the books -- Mac Secrets, for Dummies, etc) to Katrina back in 2005. Congrats on the memory and thanks for triggering a nice trip down memory lane. In 1983 in might have been MacPaint or MacWrite that needed documentation since they were released in Jan 1984. Or this didn't happen in 1983 and was closer to 1987. I purchased my first Mac in March 1985, a Mac 512k, with a second floppy drive and an ImageWriter printer. Cost almost $3K. Re: 25 years ago today: bought my first computer: Power Mac 7300/180 - RgrF - 02-25-2022 Memory is probably failing me but it was prior to the first Mac release, either way I missed the boat on buying in. Re: 25 years ago today: bought my first computer: Power Mac 7300/180 - prymsnap - 02-25-2022 My first: a Mac Plus. Outrageously fun. And the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
