The worrisome question is if Putin makes a grab for the Baltic states. Those are NATO members, but will western Europe risk nuclear war for three countries whose combined population is less than London? Would the US?
If the answer is no, then NATO collapses. If it is yes, then civilization may collapse
It is also worth noting that the Ukraine situation is very much similar to Taiwan. Who would actually come to the defense of the island if China moved to reclaim it? Economically crippling Russia is a far cry different than doing the same to China.

This is an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation.
Do unto others as they are doing to you.
the only thing that could possibly challenge 45s handler is if the Russian peoples have enough from sanctions and are willing to sacrifice themselves, literally.
That or a direct hit.
No one wants to see a nuke war.
But, did the nukes of '45 bring WWI to a faster end?
Yes, many innocent lives were lost for the dreams of imperialism and conquest.
I doubt very much that unchallenged Ukraine will quell the appetite for poo.
Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Romania ...
Many are smaller countries that couldn't even hope to put up defense against the poots. Many are just ex-wives.
Poo should have been eliminated from history many years ago.

The time to bomb would have been before Putie issued the order to invade, but that was likely before the Olympics started. A real bad look for the US. Possibly even worse, s-thing would have been right about being at war.

This is along my line of thinking as well. This is a test, and if Putin can get away with this, what is next. Now, I also believe that no country will come to the direct aid oof Ukraine unless nukes are used. Which is why he will not use them, just threaten.
This it's also a test run for the Taiwan situation, although I don't think China will engage that for a while, to see how this works out for Russia, and because they have so much more to lose.

Heh. One scenario that occurred to me that would explain a lot is that maybe Putin’s doctor told him privately he has only six months to live.

Putin will probably win control of most of Ukraine and won't need nuclear weapons to do so. But it will be a pyrrhic victory - like a wolf that manages to kill a porcupine but ends up with a mouthful of quills. He may want to take a chomp out of more countries but having a mouthful of quills makes that unlikely. IMHO anyway.

It's just Ukraine. It's where Russia began. It's origin. They'll either succeed at that or not succeed at that.
We need to stop with the speculation that a NATO country could be attacked directly. That would represent the end.
We were just 47,000 votes from having Trump as president again. That's what Putin does to control geo-political policy towards his favor. He hacks countries. He wanted Brexit, he got it. He wanted an entire U.S. Political party in his back pocket and a leftist subset of the other party in his pocket and he got it.
He was able to install a puppet that allowed him to thumb his nose and manipulate his greatest enemy to do his bidding. He almost got us to dump NATO.
He'll continue that strategy before he does anything else. He wants NATO gone.
