How about if we just keep clocks set to when the sun is at it's highest peak in the day and call it noon, as it's been done for centuries? In other words, keep standard time all year round, as that is natural and logical.
Some states should be shifted to make that a closer reality, as their time zone designation is incorrect based on the high noon principle.
This is similar to what I was envisioning, and I think it would take out some steam from the permanent-DST crowd. Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida all go into the Central time zone, the slew of states from North Dakota all the way to Texas plus Idaho move into the Mountain time zone:

This aligns better with the actual time zone designations, as seen by the straight grey lines High noon is smack in the middle of each time zone.

What rest of the world do you refer to? Most of Europe uses DST, and a number of countries in the Southern hemisphere use DST for their Summer. There are some countries that have never used DST, most of them are along the Equator and don't have the large seasonal differences in length of daylight.

So, based on contact with one country then, not the rest of the world. Japan did follow DST for several years from 1948 to 1951.

Sounds more like you're advocating to reset you clock daily to local noon.
