Yep. Personal preference. I originally felt the same way about broadcasting that you have a smart lock, but then I came to accept that getting hacked is less likely than someone breaking in with brute force or coming in through a window. I actually still don't have one on my front door (probably for aesthetic reasons), so if they see the one on the back door, they are already where they aren't supposed to be.

Don't forget advantages such as not having loaner keys floating around, the ability to assign and rescind unique codes to different individuals, and the ability to view a log or receive notifications of who unlocked the door and when.

We've only had this one a few months, and we've barely used the smart features, but it's been great.

Door frames must be reinforced by some type of 'door jamb armor' to protect against a simple kick-in attack.

Most residential frames are softwood so the deadbolt just tears through the jamb with the above.

Even if you install longer screws.

Applying the armor usually involves removing any molding and installing metal reinforcement that runs from the top of the jamb to the bottom.

It's also much quieter to kick in a door than to break a window so the former is preferred by anyone seeking to gain entrance to a home.

Notifications (and internet access) were really helpful for us recently. We had a pet sitter who kept forgetting to lock the door on her way out! So, we knew when we got the unlock notification, to check back in 50 minutes to see if she'd left (via Ring cam) and then we'd lock the door remotely.

(Yes, it would have made more "sense" to just remind the pet sitter to lock the door, but we'd already had so many issues with this one just trying to get the pets fed correctly, that locking the door ourselves just became easier.)

I have mine set to automatically lock after a few minutes. I might temporarily disable that if I'm going in and out a whole bunch.
