My guess is that it was in a wall or ceiling to cover an air-inlet for a fan.

It looks like it was cut from this product: https://www.amazon.com/M-D-Building-Products-57319-Decorative/dp/B00E7XT174/ But for what purpose, who knows!
Note how the right end is "thicker" than the left end (like it's the end of the sheet, and the left side was cut through the pattern). Likewise, the right corners are "shorter" than the left corners, like they were cut through different areas in the pattern.

No real mystery; it’s decorative aluminum sheet. Comes in a number of patterns, and can be bought at the big box hardware stores.
