Maybe, maybe not. You would be considered the importer, and would be responsible for any fees or tariffs that apply. That also includes making any modifications required to meet USDOT standards. About the only positive might be that you would be bringing in a used car if you drove it enough in Canada.

Also, you might have to do federal emissions and crash testing on your dime.

Anecdotally, a neighbor recently bought a Volvo. It was one of those things where they flew her to Sweden, and they “unveiled” her car to her there. She then flew back home, and the car was delivered (apparently sans tariffs) to her here.
There was some speculation that these manuvers might have something to do with classifying the import of the car - new vs “used”.
But we didn’t push her on it, so I don’t really know why Volvo does this.
