That was great. I'm still from the "Don't trust anyone over 30" generation. Unfortunately, I've had to up that to "Don't rust anyone over 60".

I agree with the whole minstrel's dilemma thing b/c that pretty much is my life. I write ads for my main income, and then my own stuff on the side for more of a creative outlet. (Thankfully, I do enjoy the ad biz.) When my book came out a few years ago, I knew I had to foist it on the masses, and that is what I did. It doesn't mean you have to compromise your integrity or that of your work, it just means as Pete said, you want the buying public exposed to that work.

We've all got to make a living, you know. Pete's probably got a castle or two to heat and cool as well! Ha. Shakespeare was probably a millionaire in his time. I agree there are some cases where the term "selling out" is applicable, but I think it is mostly overused -- as mentioned above...artists don't often have control of their own work.

Oh ferchrissakes!

Some people think a band sells out as soon as they sign a recording contract!

I do wince when I hear Beatles tunes in advertisements. Thanks a lot Jacko.

[quote JoeM]It was reported that Townsend said he did it because there are less and less classic rock stations now and his music is less exposed to new generations of potential listeners.
Since there was less radio exposure, the show was an attempt to reach people that might not be getting a chance to hear his stuff.

In any event, it was a smart move. And what's with this "sold out" cr@p?
we have far too many stations in chicago that play classi rock and not enough that play "new" rock...

I'm glad none of *you* have ever sold out... - RAMd®d - 04-09-2007

...and still fight the good fight.

Riiiiight.

We've all got to make a living, you know.

Exactly.

Oh ferchrissakes!

Another "Exactly".

I've never watched that show but if the rest of it is as bad as those clips, I'm not missing anything.
