I only use deodorant for that reason. same here. it's not easy to find deodorant that works well. most of the 'natural' stuff doesn't last all day. most stuff on the shelf is antiperspirant. Re: My deodorant has freaking POISON in it!? - Monster - 04-16-2007 I like Old Spice deodorant, and I don't want to know what's in it. You do realize that everything is a chemical right? All matter is composed from the same menu of atoms. While most naturally occurring substances are safe, so are most synthetic substances. There are naturally occurring compounds that are every bit as toxic or carcinogenic as the ones made by man. Its origin is irrelevant. Top 20 Hazardous Substances from the 2005 CERCLA Priority List of Hazardous Substances 1 ARSENIC- naturally occurring 2 LEAD- naturally occurring 3 MERCURY- naturally occurring 4 VINYL CHLORIDE 5 POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYLS 6 BENZENE- naturally occurring 7 POLYCYCLIC AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS- naturally occurring 8 CADMIUM- naturally occurring 9 BENZO(A)PYRENE- naturally occurring 10 BENZO(B)FLUORANTHENE- naturally occurring 11 CHLOROFORM 12 DDT, P,P'- 13 AROCLOR 1254 14 AROCLOR 1260 15 DIBENZO(A,H)ANTHRACENE- naturally occurring 16 TRICHLOROETHYLENE 17 DIELDRIN 18 CHROMIUM, HEXAVALENT- naturally occurring 19 PHOSPHORUS, WHITE- naturally occurring 20 DDE, P,P'- As scientists will tell you- The Dose Makes the Poison. Everything is poison- even water will kill you in high doses. The labeling and MSDS sheets that you read are generally written for emergency responders or industrial workers that could be exposed to large quantities of material. Learn what LD50 means and most importantly question everything that you read. In science, if research is not documented, statistically tested and peer reviewed then it is anecdotal and carries no more weight then a story that you neighbor tells you. Until I see one peer reviewed, scientifically rigorous study that documents the carcinogenicity of aspartame at common doses, I will continue to believe that it is safe as should everyone who understands the scientific process. Want to protect yourself from cancer- eat right, don't smoke, get your basement tested for radon, and wear sunscreen. Read what volcs0 wrote- truer words were never written. Ask him/her about the rate of lip and armpit cancer from deodorant and lip balm. As for Burt's Bees, it is good stuff and made right down the road from me. Good company, good people, excellent products. Liver and kidneys are two ways. I don't feel like looking up links... just going by research I've seen in person and talked with doctors/biologists/physiologists. Re: My deodorant has freaking POISON in it!? - Lew Zealand - 04-16-2007 Someone should have told the woman who drank 2 gallons of water for that radio stunt that it's toxic in those quantities. Huh, just like absolutely everything else on the planet. Apparently nobody should eat or drink anything. Ever! Or... everything in moderation? Nahhh! Does that even make sense these days??? ![]() |
