Re: home insurance - ho'ard - 05-16-2007 [quote davester]One thing to be aware of is that there are significant issues involved in making a claim (i.e. huge rate increases and cancellation). For that reason it is crazy to have a low deductible because you should only use the insurance for truly catastrophic and expensive events. Personally, I would get the highest possible deductible and suggest that you find out whether you can raise your deductible above $1,000. That still seems far too low to me. davester is right on here. In post-911 America, many insurance companies drop you after 2 claims, so there's no sense claiming anything short of a fire or the roof blowing off. My premium and my amounts on the 2-flat I live in are remarkably similar to yours, davemachine. (let history record that I agreed unequivically with davester on something) Re: home insurance - Mr645 - 05-16-2007 damn, I paid $3700 for $174K coverage w/ a 2.5% deducable for windstorm and $1000 for other losses. South Florida i read an article a few weeks ago that FL and many states all along the eastern seaboard are getting slammed by home insurance rates. Re: home insurance - Racer X - 05-16-2007 well, um...shouldn't they graylocks? If I live on the side of an active volcano, shouldn't my earthquake and fire insurance cost more? Re: home insurance - graylocks - 05-16-2007 [quote Racer X]well, um...shouldn't they graylocks? If I live on the side of an active volcano, shouldn't my earthquake and fire insurance cost more? FL i understand but this article said it was affecting places like Rhode Island, Jersey, and Maine. i just googled and the article i read was similar in thrust to this one: Re: home insurance - Racer X - 05-16-2007 2004 hurricane tracks. look at all the tropical storms, and tropical depressions hitting in the new england seaboard. ![]() |
