Re: Canon is so damn stubborn when it comes to printing CD/DVDs in the US - threeprong - 01-27-2008 IIRC. Epson bought the rights to the patent from Phillips. So i doubt they can share the patent legally. It's set to expire this year I believe. I could be wrong though. I own a Canon and print onto Cd's all the time. just need to reset the country code and buy a CD tray off ebay. 3P Re: Canon is so damn stubborn when it comes to printing CD/DVDs in the US - space-time - 01-27-2008 [quote threeprong]... I own a Canon and print onto Cd's all the time. just need to reset the country code and buy a CD tray off ebay. that cannot be done with i960 though, the European version (i965) has an additional sensor that is not installed on the i960. ![]() Re: Canon is so damn stubborn when it comes to printing CD/DVDs in the US - MacMagus - 01-27-2008 > There are other printer companies like Kodak & HP. Why haven't they sued > or are they part of the ink mafia too? There is evidence that there is such a cartel. If there were real competition, prices on ink would be lower. Re: Canon is so damn stubborn when it comes to printing CD/DVDs in the US - JoeH - 01-27-2008 There does not need to be any such cartel. All the companies know the "cheap razor, expensive blades" economic model for selling consumer goods and making the most money. There are only a few companies in the market selling printers and ink. As for third part ink, each knows how to make their ink proprietary. Yes, they have been blocked in some markets from using the more extreme means such as chipping. But some of the third party makers have not helped their group's entries into the market by supplying inferior cartridges which have cast doubt on their quality as a group. |
