I had the same problem about 2 weeks ago but didn't have time to work it out further. I just burned from itunes as a quick fix to avoid the problem.
I don't think the older versions are the solution. I am using Toast 8 and the same thing happened so I don't think is a direct Toast problem but maybe something that Toast uses for conversion like Quicktime.

I went onto the Roxio support boards and there was a similar thread. The folks in this thread thought it was an OS problem. The claim was made that 10.4.9 was ok, but 10.4.10 and 10.4.11 displayed the distortion problem.
I still can't figure out what's causing it because I can't find a common link between the files that cause this. Some MP3s and AIFFs work fine, others result in distortion.
I was thinking of updating to Toast 8, but ArtP says that is not the fix.
Anyone else?

it may just be the problem with your OS version, since updating to 10.4.11 Toast no longer is usefull for making custom dvd's so i now just use mpeg2works and forget about making any menus...
