I love mine, just put it into use though I got it a few years ago. Great for printing out eBay shipping docs/labels. I put a roller kit in mine, cost about $30.00 off of eBay to the door, with belt and gears. Took about a hour or so total to install. You can get 2 16mb simms and max the RAM out for a few bucks on eBay.

Rebuild kits and parts are here...

And other places too, GOOGLE!

Right, that might be a little hard to find, but I did get one a few years ago from Olde Milt Mac, or some such place... Don't know if he's still around, but do a search.

My 16/1600 smudges the pages, need to try to fix it I guess - probably worth fixing.

I've had a 16/600 for quite a few years. I bought it off eBay and had to rebuild it as the rollers were slick and it was scrunching pages as they came out. The rebuild to replace the rollers and belt took a couple of hours with a $40 kit from http://fixyourownprinters.com/ , but it was not hard to do.

Back when Shreve systems was going out of business I scored a brand new 500 sheet feeder for it for $35 and added a fax card from a guy on eBay for about $50. Support for the sending faxes via 16/600 was discontinued with OS 8 but it still works for receiving. To change fax receive parameters, such as what ring to answer on, it is necessary to run the old printer application under OS 9 in Classic mode.

I leave mine on all the time. I should probably check the power usage using my Kill-o-Watt.

The power consumption in standby mode is 26 watts. I turn mine off when not in use. I usually use my inkjet for day to day stuff. For large print loads, I turn on the beast.

as far as laser printers go, you should be able to fix ANYTHING in that thing for just a couple of dollars. some people here are fans of picking up essentially disposable brother printers but that LW will outlast several of those.

post if you have any problems with it.

"post if you have any problems with it."

the "problem" is that I emailed the seller (they didn't list a phone number) and so far nothing back... maybe it's already gone, although I emailed within 1 hour since the thing was posted, and on a saturday afternoon I doubt a lot of people were on the net at that time...

I've got at least one of those laying around not being used, which he can have for cost of shipping. PM me.

We turn ours off as well, but still use it for even the smallest jobs.

Dumped the old 740i this week.

We do a lot of day to day printing which is done with the 16/600. We have a Canon Pixma iP6700D that is used for printouts that need color and for printing on CDs and DVDs.

I recently printed two copies of our RV Rally club directory - 57 member pages with a 3.5" by 2.75" color picture and black text plus 10 or so pages of by laws and standing rules - and maybe ten 5x7 pictures. That used half a new black cartridge.

The ink cartridges have a chip on them to keep the printer from using brand-x ink and the Canon ones are about $10 a pop if bought in sets from Amazon. That's pretty expensive printing. Next time I'll try printing the text on the 16/600 and then running the pages through the Canon for the color pictures.
