Some of us knew this would happen!! - Drakesgirl - 05-22-2008 I am hardly a tech-y person, and generally I'm the last person to say this or that resolution or sound quality or whatever is better than another... but god, even I can see the huge difference between regular DVD and high-def. Do you (or Popular Science) have just a tiny TV perhaps? Try watching a few movies on a decent television in Blu-ray format, and then try going back to regular. A few very good reference BR movies look good at distances beyond 8 feet, but the standard BR movies, no difference. BGnR Re: Sony Wins the Battle But Loses the War. And everyone else in this conversation. *shrug* Guess it comes down to what you like, and what you'd prefer to spend money on in the long run. Re: Sony Wins the Battle But Loses the War. Beta, HD, BluRay in the DustBin of history. Hang on, are you saying the difference between a regular DVD and a Blu-ray DVD is only barely discernible at five feet? Are you BLIND? I got the impression that BGnR has some vision issues... I could be wrong though. =wr= Re: Sony Wins the Battle But Loses the War. Some of us knew this would happen!! - Silencio - 05-22-2008 Blu-ray's true competition is going to be digital downloads, and digital downloads are eventually going to win. Of course, there are a lot of technology and marketing roadblocks that need to get cleared before that happens, but it'll happen. Apple is in as good a position as anyone to be a (or the) leader in this market, as well. Re: Sony Wins the Battle But Loses the War. Most folks hate admitting they spent a "Grip of Cash" on something only to find out it didn't make a difference. A Popular Mechanics auto tester said this back in the day.: "Most folks loved their Ford Edsel, till they sold it." BGnR Re: Sony Wins the Battle But Loses the War. Some of us knew this would happen!! - Drakesgirl - 05-22-2008 Actually, I've never bought anything to do with Blu-ray in my life. I've never spent money on the franchise at all. I could be wrong though. =wr= Sorry, not anymore. Call my Eye Doctor if you want. But for about two years I was legally blind, and for about eight months stone blind. What I have is "Reality Vision", some (most) folks have fallen into the "Consumerism Canyon" head first, salivating at the "Latest & Greatest", never realizing (or wanting to), that it is no better than what they had. True story.: A female friend broke her cell phone, I receive and give away tons of electronic toys all the time. I had a new in box Motorola RZRv2 that I said she could have, gratis. She came to pick it up and when she saw it she said "Thanks, but No Thanks", and went to the cell store and spent $199 on a RED Motorola RZRv2!! She wanted the Red one, not the Black one that I offered her for free. It is kinda sad being surrounded by a society that picks vehicles based on cupholders, and abandon animals because they don't match the new furniture. BGnR Re: Sony Wins the Battle But Loses the War. Some of us knew this would happen!! - Drakesgirl - 05-22-2008 You're in a forum about Mac computers, BGnR. Might be the wrong place to go off into a consumerism rant. Just sayin'. Just don't lump everyone who likes high-def, or who likes to customize their cell phone, or whatever the latest craze is, into one grouping. It's their money, so they can spend it on what they like. And who's to say they don't also donate money as well to any number of charities? And just FYI, because the example you used fits so perfectly, I happen to like gadgets. I've also been for years temporarily adopting cats needing socialization before being adopted permanently, as well as those who have been abandoned due to health problems from being too old, and need a place to be loved and taken care off before they pass on. I also like to watch my stuff on a big TV. So, basically, don't judge. |
