Yeah, I saw a report last week that regular was $3.30 in Austin.
The pre-Ike "bread and milk" panic (everybody from Atlanta knows what I'm talking about) kicked our supply in the nuts, and it hasn't recovered yet.

Thought I read self-serve isn't available in New Jersey (AND it was the cheapest gas in April when I drove from GA to NY.)
GA gas hasn't been cheap for quite a while. Taxes have gone significantly up in the last 10 years. As I was moving from WA, we were worried because gas had just gone over $1. "Not to worry, gas in Georgia is cheap" my dad said. It was already $1.50 or so by the time we got here in 2000.

We just called the Costco in Alpharetta and they said they did have regular, finally. My husband is on his way now. He has about a quarter of a tank, so I hope he is able to fill up. He was heading out anyway, so luckily it isn't a special trip. I have no idea what the price will be.

things have definitely changed in GA in the last few years. i used to wait until crossing the border into GA (I75) before getting gas. now there are stations between Chattanooga and Murphesboro that have been consistently cheaper than GA. for the last few years, i fill up there and at the very least, fill up again before i reach the Altanta Metro area. and now you say AL may be cheaper - that is a switch.
i keep notes on my PDA with exit numbers for the cheaper gas stations. i also check gasbuddy prices before i hit the road. and sometimes, i get so darn tired of tracking all this i just hold my nose and not watch the numbers zoom by as i fill up.

My wife and I both filled up yesterday, coasting to the pump on fumes. I drove around for about 30 minutes during lunch in order to find a station with gas. There was a line of about 15 cars in front of me, but fortunately they have 20 pumps, so it wasn't too long a wait. This was the QT on Roswell Road near Northridge in Sandy Springs. $3.96/gallon.
Last night, we drove past about a dozen closed stations until we came to another QT with open pumps (Crossville Road and Crabapple in Roswell). They had 2 lines of about 10 cars each with two employees directing traffic. This was $4.06/gallon.
Yes, Georgia used to be among the cheapest in gas prices, but those days are long gone, as stated above.

I was in Atlanta last week (my mom retired and moved to Atlanta -- my brother and I drove her stuff from CA) and just missed this crisis. Her neighbors were just beginning to squawk about the scarcity of gas on my last day there. I was lucky to be able to fill the tank on the U-Haul before this hit the fan.

I have not tried to fill up because I have had 1/2 tank, and heard people were acting crazy and making panic runs to the gas station. I also heard there was gas intown, but not much in the burbs.
Several stations were limiting purchase to 5 gallons while there is a shortage. Wonder why everyone else is getting gas shipments.
I thinks there is price gouging going on.
