I use E*trade and am quite happy, although I haven't used any of the others to compare.

The only fee I'm paying is $9.99 per trade. What fees were they dinging you with, billb?

Quarterly maintenance fees ( when no activity).

There were also a slew of charges when I went to close the account.
This was back in 2002 /2003 or thereabouts, I mostly remember chasing them for months for a $216 check that was always "in the mail, you should see it in three days".

I use Schwab only because I have been with them for years. I am pretty sure E*Trade has the worst user reviews by far of any company mentioned in this thread (too lazy to look up reviews).

No, I do not believe one can use a credit card to fund their accounts.
I think they have an electronic means of transferring funds in, but when I opened my account there I had to either mail a check or bring it in person to their branch (which I did).
And since I wanted to trade the next day, my check was a cashier's check.

Darn! There goes that idea…

Just a reality check, is there any way to buy a stock using a credit card?

Not positive, but I think it's actually against SEC rules to "buy" stock on credit... (and as I think about it, that's probably a good idea... generally speaking...)

Shucks! I thought it would be a good time to short some stocks and I have a big line of credit on a number of my cards.

I rarely use the credit line that I have, but as someone before has said, " I have a dream."

I have now arrived at a point where a dream that I had in the '70s has become timely again. When I told a broker friend of mine about the dream that I had the night before, he told me that I had (without any knowledge of the concept) dreamed about selling short.

Where the idea came from I don't have a clue, but the situation today is highly reminiscent of what it was then, so if it were possible to use my credit cards to play, I would be really intrigued to follow that earlier dream message which came to me from only heaven knows where.

If my story inspires anyone to follow my dream and they make a lot of money, please don't forget to send me a fair percentage or at least tell me about it. Smile
