But, I didn't know "Forum Seniority" gave some sort of insight or knowledge. I thought actual insight and knowledge did that. He was trying to help, that is all. BTW, installing RAM improperly, unless you physically force it the wrong way will not affect anything else. BGnR BTW, you are lame. Re: Guessing game: G5 RAM installed asymmetrically; consequences? - Doc - 11-09-2008 Last year, a number of G5's came into my office with defective video cards. Checkerboard patterns and sometimes when a PDF is opened in the Preview app, weird diagonal dot-patterns appearing on screen. From your description, that's what you've got. I won't be knocking you off that perch, but maybe if you change your nick you could strive for a different title. Anyway, thanks for the usual pearl of wisdom buried down in the usual toxic ooze. Thanks Doc as well--just thought the coincidence of ham-handed RAM installation and bad video card was too coincidental. Wishful thinking, I guess. Post Thread Analysis - jimbrady - 11-09-2008 PTA (Post Thread Analysis): Way more interest before I gave away the answer, but admittedly more useful responses afterwards. In the end, I got my help, and had more fun than I would've with the same-old troubleshooting thread. Let's call it a draw. Re: Guessing game: G5 RAM installed asymmetrically; consequences? - Jack D. - 11-09-2008 No, let's play again!! I'll start. I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 700 billion. Now it's your turn.... :poke: Re: Guessing game: G5 RAM installed asymmetrically; consequences? - jimbrady - 11-09-2008 Is it 9? First the 22" CRT would act freaky, Image mashed, flickering, 100% unusable. restart would fix it, then it would not go away and the second monitor, Apple ADC LCD freaked out. Both monitors doing the same thing. Must be the video card I thought. Turns out the 22" CRT went bad and was causing the bad video problem on the LCD as well. Once the CRT was unplugged the video card and LCD were fine. |
