Golf shoes are useless since the advent of soft spikes - better to use cleats

Boards of Directors are generally made up of influential people from other companies, namely CEOs and other muckety-mucks who don't want their pay packages effed wit' when their turn for review pops up in the rotation.

Thanks. I have little insight into the corporate world (beyond the glimpses I get of hospital administrators trying to emulate the big kids) but what I have seen in the 'agency' world is that the folks chosen for the boards are typically spread very thin and mostly wondering how to get off of a board or two, and barely have time to arrive at any meetings prepared enough to do anything but just go along with what's asked of them.

What you described BL is a big disincentive to looking closely at management proposals. Add the "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours" incentive, and CEO and top management salaries have exploded over the last decade or two in the US, especially compared to other pay rates.
