There you go, putting words in my mouth again. Damn it! STOP it. Show me where I said the Japanese were going to buy us with our own money?

You, sir, are a liar!

You claim to be a teacher and you can't follow a simple thought line?

You said in an earlier post:
How China and Saudi Arabia will buy us with our own money. wrote:

In all fairness, don't you think Japan was a little different deal? China has the population, the natural resources, and I would imagine has us a little more over the barrel than japan ever did. kj.

Re: Something to consider - RgrF - 02-25-2009

Of course it was different. The way people perceived it at the time wasn't. The threat was every bit as real to them as is China to you today. The Japanese had recently bought the Chrysler Building in New York and the sky was falling.

BTW I was responding to another one of Swampy's incredibly stupid posts and calling her on her act. By ignoring that you join the debate, but only as a diversion.

Even if they do "own" us, in a way that makes us safer because their wealth depends on us. Goose that laid the golden egg and all that.

I was addressing the topic, so I guess that would normally be a diversion. kj.

Only if you like occupying the same niche as your dog. kj.

Re: Something to consider - Acer - 02-26-2009

Sorry, I'll still take "know a good investment when they see it" over "buying all our assets so they can drive us into the ground somehow despite the fact that such an act would destroy their own economy in the process"

Remember the gospel of capitalism: once they learn how to make money, they'll learn to enjoy it, and will prefer financial stability over religious, ethnic or ideological unrest.

China seems quite absorbed in making money these days, Communist on the letterhead but amassing cash all the same. Even OPEC has avoided using oil as a political tool (at least in extreme measure as they did in the 70s) for 30 years because it ultimately bites them in the butt with depressed oil prices.

Ya gotta have faith, kj!

Re: Something to consider - kj - 02-26-2009

You're right, acer. Things'll probably be just fine. Sorry, my faith is a little pessimistic lately. kj.

Re: Something to consider - swampy - 02-26-2009

My apologies RgrF. I did misread your statement...."Swampy apparently doesn't remember when the Japanese were going to "buy us with our own money".

In the context of the OP I took it to mean that you thought I was skirting some issue by not mentioning the Japanese investments and only pointing to Saudi Arabia and China or perhaps I had mentioned it in another thread, but ignored it in this one.

You made a valid point, but the way you phrased it was totally unnecessary. There was no need for you to couch your point in a reference to my memory capabilities.
