It is all of the heavy repression from the Mormon church. They are told all of the things that can't do (smoke, drink, do anything on Sundays) that they need a release. Maybe it is also that they have 4+ kids before they are 30 and being that divorce is unheard of, they need something to do.
I have lived in several cities (SF, San Diego, LA, Seattle and SLC), and I can tell you, unequivocally, that SLC has the WORST drivers of them all. They jump into traffic without looking, change lanes without signals OR looking and speed up when you are in the process of changing lanes. To show you how bad it is there, they want a state-wide ban on texting while driving AND SOME CITIZENS ARE MAD OVER IT!!!
Maybe they are rushing home to watch porn.

I thought this was SOP for drivers everywhere these days. My favorite Baltimore example: the over-the-speed-limit turbocharged right on red without signaling nor slowing down to see if they are going to kill a pedestrian. But don't even get me started. :X
