If they bring in an understudy for Bauer to work with, one that is accepted by the fans, then YES, it could continue. But to bring in a new player for a new year would be very difficult for fan acceptance. Possible, but, difficult.

It can't happen soon enough. At the very least, the show's writers should be severely chastised.

I read in the newspaper yesterday about how everyone is being killed off in the show. When Edgar was killed, the public was very upset with that decision. The producers of the show said "the viewer were getting too comfortable".

I would stop watching if Jack Bauer is terminated. Sutherland has said there is a movie in the planning stages.
