I like the suggestion of the case with the built-in power supply, but it sure is pricey. One of the things I dislike about many of the enclosures now is the random haphazard selection of mini-DIN-like power connectors; it seems they just choose whatever they can get cheaply, with no regard for purposefulness, nor ease of replacement if (when) the power brick dies. I can buy any myriad of switched/unswitched and regulated/unregulated power bricks with the long-standard barrel connector.

At this point, unless I come across a good deal on a pre-made drive, I'll probably try to roll my own, with a good enclosure which will hopefully be durable. I'll lose out on the warranty of course, but have control over drive mechanism selection, and can up the capacity later provided the case lasts.

Kiva, WRT to the Fantom drive, why not get the FW version for $10 more? But it depends on you trust that vendor and the rebates.

ya, i think we're just going to wait a bit...maybe get a good OWC case and put it together....

also, i am planning on getting a new macbook when they're updated....and it doesn't have FW, as of yet Smile

thanks for the suggestion! Good reminder on the rebate Smile
