Short answer is - Yes... and capable for data rates twice as fast as FireWire 400. Great for Target disk mode transfers (assuming other Mac has FW800) since noticeably speeds up such.

Is FW 800 all that FW400 is but faster?

My Powerbook G4 1.33 will not show up in Target Disk Mode on my G5 dual2.5 tower. But works when connected via FW400.

But for most things I use FW800 when I can. Drives, card readers etc.
