yeah rgG, but I fantasize that you were the quiet, but hot nerdy girl in glasses, that was destined to be a librarian by day, and dominatrix by night.

You notice she didn't deny being nerdy. Although, most nerds aren't cheerleaders, so what does that tell us? Smile

I had monovision RK surgery (a precursor to Lasik) some 20 years ago and while it was successful, I'd give a lot to have the pre-surgery vision back and just wear glasses. Also, over the years, I find I have more "trouble" (irritation, pain, poor vision in the morning) with that eye and no issues with the one that was left alone. I'll be a candidate for lens replacement one day and, if I can afford it, I'd like to try the bifocal lenses - $5,000 / eye down here in FL.

My experience (and that of others I know with personal experience) is that over the years your vision may change and I now need glasses to see 20-20. YMMV.

If you have the cataract (lens replacement) surgery after you are old enough for Medicare, they will pay for everything and you just pay the difference between the regular and the Toric multi-focal lenses. A friend of ours had this done and that was what he did. It was either $700 per eye more or $700 total, either way, a lot better than if you have to pay the whole 5K out of pocket.

I will find it ironic/sad, if sometime after I turn 65 I have the surgery and for the first time in my life am able to function without glasses.

Did LASIK about 3 years ago....very happy with it. It has changed my world as far as the ability to do outdoor activities. My driving is easier, I have much better night vision. My skiing, wakeboarding, rock climbing have all improved immensely with the ability to see. Life changing for sure.

For doubters, there are some risks, but you take insane risks every time you get in a motorized vehicle, or get on a bike and share a road with a motorized vehicle. We all do that with nary a thought. If you're a candidate for LASIK, I say find a doctor with a good track record and go for it.

I had Lasik last year and have been very happy. I agree with everything Markintosh said just above. Being able to go snow skiing and not worry about my eyes drying out is great. Swimming and being able to open my eyes and see underwater was something I hadn't been able to do in years.

I waited until they had the custom correction procedure with all lasers. It was an easy, 15 minute procedure. I went home, slept for a few hours, and woke up seeing better than I had in 15 years.

I want the kind of vision I had when I was 15.

In my late high school and early college years my vision was gradually getting worse. I finally decided I needed glasses. I had a college friend recommend I go to the university Department of Ophthalmology rather than a regular optometrist because they would be a lot more thorough (not sure why I needed that--just to make sure I didn't have any medical problems I guess).

So the doctor did a zillion tests and apparently found nothing medically wrong. After he was finished he sat down with me and asked "So why are you here?" I said "Because my vision has gotten a lot worse. I can't see as well as I used to and I need glasses." He told me my vision was 20/20 in one eye and 20/15 in the other! My vision must have been crazy when I was a kid.

I have worn glasses ever since. I'm sure it hasn't been 20/20 for many years. My correction is entirely astigmatism though.
