Agreed, abrasive but he had good solid information to share. I wish he would come back.

Anybody know how many different personas he posted under? I got his attention when he was ValleyDog at the other forum & had a hard time coming to terms with the depths of his apparent insanity. Absolutely blistering verbal attacks via private messages that went far beyond what was called for under the circumstances.

How very Flo Nightingale of you Howard.

The reference is lost on me, and I suspect that's fine-- but attacking someone who's not around to defend himself is about what I'd expect from you.

He is a bright guy. A bit abrasive, but I can be too. If you disagree with me about my opinion then you're just plain stupid.
Agreed, about BGnR. I quit posting here for almost a year after he agreed with an opinion of mine about certain old Mac monitors in a most polite and almost complimentary fashion; once that momentous event occurred, I was forced to re-evaluate my perception of the entire universe and had serious doubts as to whether or not I could add anything of value to the discussions on this forum. Prior to that, any time I said anything was black I could pretty much count on BGnR replying "No, it's white, and I know that it's white because I used to work on them when they first were introduced back in the 1970s".

Did BGNR have some good info? Yes he did.

Was he abrasive at times? Yes, but I always took it with a large grain of salt.

Did he drive off others from posting due to his behavior? Possibly, that is what admins had to consider? The terms of the user agreement are spelled out aren't they?

Are some saying it is ok to pardon attacking and abrasive behavior in private messages just because someone is knowledgeable? Maybe, maybe not.

Frankly I have been to busy keeping my head above water in my off-line life to notice or be overly concerned about it but those are my quick thought.

Sorta miss the (sometimes) acerbic comments...

I miss the solid knowledge he had on a variety of subjects that is otherwise lacking in the current crew. You guys have a tendency to drive away anyone with a bit of spunk. When this forum is nothing more than a bucolic place where you can post pet obituaries and not get a shred of useful mac or tech advice, you'll all be blissfully happy.

FYI it was his choice not to return, and considering the treatment he got, I don't blame him.
here is the deal. Cyberstalking people off the forum and endless profanity will get you suspended, or banned. If you don't agree to the TOS, go elsewhere. For the record, I would call him my "friend" We have each others e-mails. But breaking the rules repeatedly is a bad idea, here or anywhere else.

I have no doubt the admins received beaucoup complaints and that any actions they took were in the belief that they were acting on the behest of the forum membership.
I respect Rhonda and Phil and was not directing my diatribe at them.

hey but michael vick is playing again, so in our society, no matter how heinous, anything can happen...

Re: So...BGnR? - jardster - 10-13-2009

He certainly did have some knowledge that was useful and I used that knowledge on occasion. On the other hand, this is a place where you should be able to ask a question, no matter how stupid, and NOT be told it was stupid. Sometimes, people tend to jump on those who don't do things "right" (provide the OS, version number of app, amount of RAM). I'm all for good-natured ribbing occasionally, but a little civility goes a long way.
