Wash your hands more often and scrub under your nails.

Wash your chin with plain soap and water a few times each day.

Wash more often when it itches more.

You're probably passing an allergen along to the sensitive skin under your jaw every time you scratch.

What Doc and the others said.

I get this too from a dull blade and/or the wrong shaving cream. I use Aveeno Sensitive Skin (or something like that, it has "with FeverFew" written on the front of the can) and thus far it's probably my favorite shave. Change blades once a week or else soak your blade in a vial of Vit E oil when not in use. That'll get you about 2 weeks out of it.

Peter,

Nix on the shaving cream. Just use soap.

Just stop using the new shave cream for two weeks (at least a week after the problem goes away). Then try the suspect shave cream again. If the problem recurs, you have your culprit.

I shave with a blade while taking a hot shower, best shave ever!

folliculitis https://www.google.com/health/ref/Folliculitis

I had a staph infection on my chin -- caused by shaving -- eventually cured by mupirocin and thoroughly washing my hands with Hibiclens and brushing my nails for one minute twice a day.

Cross contamination is common. Be very careful not to touch your face as it will continue to spread the infection.
