The G.S.A. says the building will use 60 percent to 65 percent less energy than comparable buildings and estimates a savings of $280,000 annually in energy costs. Solar panels could provide up to 15 percent of the building’s power needs. The use of rainwater and low-flow plumbing fixtures will reduce potable water consumption by 68 percent. And energy for lighting will be halved.

Why, this is madness! Madness I tell you!

If they really wanted to so "good", they should plant fruit and vegetables to supplement food banks or feed prison inmates to save the government some money. Most prisons here in south Florida have farms that are a source of food for the jails. Prisoners provide the labor.

That is a completely unrelated issue swampy.

mick e doesn't disagree that it is a good idea, but it just has nothing to do with the OP - which is green building initiatives.

I had an ant farm when I lived in FL. Fire Ants! Same here!

I don't need to write on my hand to remember to avoid them!

Well I for one am glad that samintx posted this. Perhaps she's turned a new leaf and is now posting things that show the government is doing a good job. I am however puzzled over her use of the adjective "hairbrained". I'm not quite sure what this means. It certainly couldn't be related to the common adjective "hare-brained", which is based on the crazy behaviour of hares during mating season.

A deceased ex father in law ranted that all schools should be factory built and all the same.
