My 1.42 G4 makes some fan noise when i'm doing a lot in photoshop, or copying from a CD, but only for a few seconds at a time. Rest of the time i don't know if it's on or not.

My fan is silent. Or at least below the threshold of what I can detect in the environment in which it is located.
