There is very little to differentiate models any more. They are all commodity products under about $700. You can get some pretty nice models right under $1000, depending on exactly what you want.
It takes a little while to orient yourself among the models because Intel has enabled them to flood the market with 20 versions. HP was selling one model for six months that had a CPU that was not listed on the Intel processor finder website, really... WTF!?!
At one time Apple had cutting edge hardware in the first MacBook Pro, but has dragged its feet ever since. The GPU in the current model was first released almost two years ago. I really hope the new model about to be released, has something less than a year old.
